The Trees in Lal Bagh

16 March 2008

We were treated to a 3 hour long tour of the many species of trees in Lal Bagh along with the history behind each tree and also lots about Bangalore. A pleasant Sunday morning started with the rock, which is a national Geological monument and interesting acount of the history of Lal Bagh by Vijay Thiruvady. We saw many trees which were brought to Lal Bagh by Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan and later the British; it was truely amazing to see a vast number of trees from all over the world co-existing perfectly naturally and florishing. From the Banyan, Ficus Krishnaya, Pepal to the many flowering trees and the conifers all with their own charm and uses, we realised how trees and plants have complemented our culture.

Six members attended and after that we had breakfast at MTR. Hope you all can do the walk f you did not attend, maybe we can do it again sometime.
